What I Write, What I Hear.
Thoughts, Inspirations, Information.
Since my last workshop, I've had a few women ask me "How do you live, and work, and run your business with your partner without killing each other?"
From an outsider's perspective I guess we look like we've managed it pretty damn easily huh...? Well.... let me tell you, that is not entirely true.
Don't be alarmed, it's not ALL rainclouds and thunder, and I can quite proudly say that after a full year of managing tears, miscommunication and near break-up arguments, we have both come to what I feel is a beautiful place of balance and understanding. But gosh it's been a journey. And one which I know we have both taken SO much from, and continue to do so every. single. day.
Relationships aren't always easy - think about it - you are two totally different people from two totally different worlds and upbringings, coming together to share a life. When you work together as well you not only share your home and your bed, but you share creative decisions, financial decisions, staffing decisions and so much more. Ego can play a big role in business and when you're both stubborn, it's often hard to find a necessary balance.
A bad day at work together, can then turn into a bad evening at home together, stupid arguments which go around in circles, and ultimately a feeling of huge disconnection from your soul mate ... which is devastating. All you want in that moment is to throw the business in the bin and go back to being carefree and in love.
On the flip-side, understanding each others values and needs within the business, knowing your strengths and weaknesses and feeling supported as a 'team' only heightens the love, and means that you not only have a hand to hold during the hard times, but you've also got your best friend to take out to dinner when you celebrate those wins!
So after much thought, here are my little pearls of wisdom from what I've learnt (so far) from running a business with my soul mate:
